Paul Pogba shared the same feeling as most people on Tuesday night and was left realising his own mortality in the face of the genius that is Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona superstar ran the show as his side overcame Manchester United at the Nou Camp, to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After opening the scoring with a breathtaking run and wonder strike, Messi peeled away to celebrate at the very moment TV cameras captured Pogba with a look of sheer bewilderment etched across his face.

The Manchester United man didn't know where to look as Messi stole the show in Catalonia

Messi turned United players inside and out, slipping the ball through the legs of Fred before leaving the Brazilian on the floor.

Curling the ball from a difficult angle, Messi manipulated the shot so as to pick out the bottom corner at pace and see the Nou Camp explode with celebration.

Pogba did not know where to look, and his puzzled facials were immediately commented upon by football fans around the globe.

'When you can't blame Jose,' wrote one fan, poking fun at Pogba's recent slide into an underwhelming period of form.

'When you realise  that Kante is not there to stop Messi,' added another - suggesting Pogba can only flourish when with the France national team due to the hardworking N'Golo Kante playing behind him.

Barca triumphed 3-0 on the night courtesy of Messi's brace and a long range stunner from former Liverpool man Philippe Coutinho.

A 4-0 aggregate scoreline saw the Spaniards safety into the final four of the tournament, where they will face either Liverpool or Porto.
